Game Day Ticket Sales

Just finished with the Game Day Ticket sales tally...we sold a total of 850. Matt Weitekamp was our big saleman with 100 tickets for the 2nd season in a row, but there were several other big sellers that saved the promotion. Casey Rosenthal sold 92 tickets, while Kenny O'Brien added 76 and Rickey Shipman 70. We also owe a big thank you to Larry Boston who sold 65 tickets himself. Larry sold 40+ last year as well. What makes Larry's sales so useful is that nearly every one was sold to someone outside the community, leaving the field open for our players to solicit locals. Larry deserves the credit for helping to line us up with Caseys as our Game Ball sponsor as well, he set Coach M with the contact information 15 years ago. Thanks to parents who continue to support Mohawk Baseball long after their children have graduated!

Tickets can certainly still be sold, there are 100 sitting on Coach's desk at the moment. Players could certainly grab them and sell to off-set the cost of our Brewers tickets or rooms. If we sell an addtional 100 by Wednesday of next week, Coach M will make up the difference to cover player's rooms in Milwaukee.

Pictures This Afternoon

It's early, but we have pictures today after school. Players need to bring their order sheet. We will have an abbreviated practice following the picture...players CAN wear their uniform pants...we will NOT be hitting on the field, will run pics and 1st and 3rd's (I know...the cows are already running over town, but we might as well try out our barndoor locks).

Hillsboro Game...NO JV

Hillsboro will not play a JV game, so all rookies are NOT required to attend the Thursday game. We have a half-day of school that day. Players are always welcome to attend every game, but it a situation like Thursday, it is highly unlikely they will play. Also...we generally stop to eat following our away games...bring a little extra cash, we'll hit the McD's (get something from the dollar menu!)

Robbie C Sells GameDays To Congressmen

Robbie Connors, Jr first year player, didn't sell the most Game Day Tickets, but likely had the biggest "celebrity" sales. While on our trip to DC, Robbie managed to sell tickets to Senator Durbin and Representative Shimkus. Both were good sports, despite having been put on the spot. I'm not sure about laws about buying and selling in the House Gallery, but Robbie did land the sale following Mr Shimkus' discussion of the House Chamber during a debate on a National Security bill. Sales COULD continue through the weekend, plenty of extra tickets remain. Special thanks to Hailey Johnson who handled the ticket entry. We've alreay had two winners on tickets sold by Andy Voorhees and Casey Rosenthal. The winners page has a link on the right, but ticket holders don't have to check the list...checks are sent out by Barb Smith each week.

Great Job On Concession Sign Up!

Becky game me the list following the Monday Warrensburg game with every slot for the season filled...wow! Great job parents. The list can always be accessed by following the link at the bottom of the page. We've already had two great nights, Becky tells me that our cook has been absolutely stellar (thanks, Phil!...I'm working on the light covers). Becky is in her 3rd season covering the stand, and incredibly important job. Mohawk Baseball is, and has indeed been, blessed with dedicated and patient (key ingredient in dealing with Coach M) moms...thanks to you Becky! Becky, here is your very own special link...a printable concession stand schedule...everyone else could print one, buy I'm not sure why you'd need to with the link at the bottom of the page. SCHEDULE.

Steve Brown To Field Rescue

Steve Brown once again came to the resuce to ready the field for our Warrensburg game. Without Steve's efforts we would likely not have been able to get the game in after own weekend rains. He prepared the field for practice last week as well. We have a tradition of being able to play when others cannot or will not, much of this rides on the volunteer efforts of Steve and those who preceeded him. He comes cheap, but that doesn't mean we need to undervalue his contributions...players and parents need to let him know how much he is appreciated.

Mohawk Family Loses Big Fan

As most of you are aware, the Mohawk baseball family lost one of our strong supporters when Linda Dozier passed away early Sunday. Linda was mother of Sheila Unser and grandmother to current Mohawk, Craig Unser and 2009 grad Cody Unser. Visitation will be in town on Wednesday and the funeral will take place Thursday.

Schedule Complete On Mohawks OnLine

The schedule is now updated and fairly complete on the Mohawks OnLine site. This is a calendar format and includes add ons like prom, key club, etc. It is in an iCal format which means it can generally be downloaded and sync with a program like outlook or your phone calendar.

Rockford/Milwaukee Baseball Trip

Our Spring Trip will take place on April 24th & 25th as we travel to Rockford to play two games at Road Ranger Stadium and then hit the road to Milwaukee to catch a Sunday game between the Brewers and the Cubs. I have set aside 71 tickets with the Brewers and have had several people ask me to reserve. If you know the exact number of tickets you would want, please send an email or call me at school to confirm...do this even if you have done so already. I want to confirm my numbers and make sure my list is not missing anyone. I have also reserved 11 rooms through hotwire, nothing amazing, but they come for just over $50 tax included. I'm not sure how many more I could get at this price, so if you're interested let me know and I'll try for some additional rooms. These will need to be paid for almost immediately as they will be sitting on my personal credit card. The hotel is the Crowne Plaza Airport.

The current schedule page and the downloadable/printable version have now been updated and are current through this week. CLICK HERE for a pretty printable copy of the schedule in an acrobat file.

Rawling Team Sweatshirts on Sale

Casey models a sweatshirt we have from Kesslers that sports the Mohawk logo on the front chest. They are extremely comfortable, and although not as fancy as the order we took earlier, are still very nice. Cost is $28 per shirt, and we have exactly 10 available. We will not reorder any of these so when they are gone...they're gone. They do run quite large (in contrast to the X-grain we ordered earlier). These would work for players or parents. We'll put them in the concession stand for the first couple of games until we run out.

Information On New Bat Rule

Link To Mohawk Bat Information: Required Reading!!

While the impact of the new National Federation Bat rules will not be felt for 2 years, here's a heads-up on changes for 2012. ALL our current bats will NOT be legal for the 2012 season. ANY bat purchased this year will effectively be unuseable in the spring of 2012...so this may be significant for our younger players. Having just invested more than $600 for our bats, the subject has become of great interest to Coach M. Most of our "game" bats are used for only two seasons in competition and then are relegated to BP, so for the moment this is not a crisis, but our situation will likely feel like one as 2012 arrives. Because this is an issue near and dear to Coach's heart, a page will be devoted to bat information.

Mohawk Baseball Google Map Now Available

It would be fair to say that the new Mohawk Baseball Google Map borders on the "geeky," but it's still worth a look. The page contains most of the game locations for the Mohawk and Tomahawk baseball games. It allows street and satellite views of each site along with a short description. Google Map directions are normally outstanding. However, the exact field locations are identified rather than street addresses, and this sometimes causes the directions to be wrong. The directions link in the link bar contains accurate driving directions to most game sites, but the Google Maps version is much more fun. I'm thinking I may have to try the suggested route to Nokomis some day just to sightsee. Link to Mohawk Google Map page.
