Check The Bar Above This Headline
The rollover bar above the headline above is VERY IMPORTANT. Stories and information on this baseball front page will change regularly and at a rapid pace during the baseball season. ALL notes from the front page are moved to the Mohawks Baseball OnLine site when they are removed from this front page. During the HS season, stories frequently remain for only a day or so. The OnLine site provides an opportunity to catch the information you might have missed. It also provides a bit of running history for our season. In addition there are several items on the page including updated schedules and a schedule change log that are important and helpful tools for players and parents. The entire bar is a link to the site...please make sure to check it out.

Team Pictures Set For Wednesday
We've set next Wednesday as our picture day with RaeAnne, we DO NOT have a game that day (the only day we don't next week). Forms will be distributed as practice on Thursday and need to be handed to RaeAnne next Wednesday.
Rockford/Milwaukee Baseball Trip
Our Spring Trip will take place on April 24th & 25th as we travel to Rockford to play two games at Road Ranger Stadium and then hit the road to Milwaukee to catch a Sunday game between the Brewers and the Cubs. I have set aside 71 tickets with the Brewers and have had several people ask me to reserve. If you know the exact number of tickets you would want, please send an email or call me at school to confirm...do this even if you have done so already. I want to confirm my numbers and make sure my list is not missing anyone. I have also reserved 11 rooms through hotwire, nothing amazing, but they come for just over $50 tax included. I'm not sure how many more I could get at this price, so if you're interested let me know and I'll try for some additional rooms. These will need to be paid for almost immediately as they will be sitting on my personal credit card. The hotel is the Crowne Plaza Airport.
Concession Stand Volunteer List Now Updated
This year's concession stand volunteer list is now updated and carries the correct home games as of tonite. With our numbers, we're needing each set of parents to take 3 different night shifts. We are shooting to have 3 people man the stand for each home date. As most are aware, the concession stand truly pays for EVERYTHING we do as Mohawk baseball. The school provides only umpires and transportation, so every piece of equipment and every diamond improvement comes from concession stand proceeds. Becky O'Brien is already hard at work preparing the stand and we need our volunteers to give either her or me your list of prefered dates.

Thanks To Those Who Helped With Diamond Work
Several pre-season work projects were completed during the diamond workday this past Saturday. Progress has begun on turning the right field pavilion into prime storage. A fence extension along the first base line and visitor's line-up mound was completed, and our clean-up work was completed as well.
Diamond Work Day Set For Saturday
With great weather forecast for Saturday and plenty to do on the diamond, we are scheduling our first diamond workday. We have a number of projects we'll try to get done including:
- Reset base pegs
- Complete visitors warmup mound…cut off 4x4 and fill with limestone
- Install warmup mound fence
- Install batting cage barrier
- Level Astroturf
- Rake and burn leaves
- Roll outfield
- Clean out metal shed
- Paint shed posts
- Net on rolling cage
- Infield water extension collar
- Batting cage net repair
- Mound work…add material??
- Spread pre-emergent and fertilizer
- Backstop netting
- Reset Trees along Winchester line
We'll begin around 8:00...I need you to show around that time unless you have a solid reason. We shouldn't go much past noon. Parents...we can use your help and supervision if you are so inclined, if you see a job you think you can tackle, come on down and we'll get it going. Bring equipment if you can.
Helmets Available...Likely For The Last Time
Our batting helmets are closeouts from Schutt in Litchfield. They are the Air7 model (Schutt's best) featuring a red-silver finish and retail for more than $40. They have a limited number of all sizes left, and they won't be making any more in this color combination. We can get them for $17 each. While we have enough for our games, some players prefer to have their own personal helmet. Let me know immediately if you want one and we'll pick it up next week. We'll include the helmet decal at no charge. With a small inventory, I doubt there will be any of these available later this spring, so this may be our only chance.
GameDay Ticket Sales Have One Week To Go
Game Day tickets have been out for almost two weeks and the promotion has just over a week until we conclude sales. Players directly benefit for ticket sales, and it is essential that we reach 750 tickets sold to make the program work. We sold exactly 1,000 last year, but tickets sales are coming along at a slower pace. Each player needs to make a determined effort to sell their set.
Hey There's A Baseball Season Going On!
I've been in DC trip mode for the last 3 weeks, so I'm just getting my head back in the baseball game. Plenty to know and do so the updates will be coming hot and heavy beginning this AM! For our rookies, know this...we are going to be practicing every day...we'll make adjustments for gym availability and weather.
Equipment Orders
While I know this is a great burden on our rookie players, it is none-the-less essential that equipment order be taken care of in the next two days. Sunglasses will be ordered from Akadema tomorrow (Friday). The Kesslers Order MUST be taken care of by Friday, they are closing the team shop on that day (Kesslers has shoes, socks, belts & batting gloves). The baseball jackets have already been ordered, but I can add to that order if there is interest. Pants have not yet been ordered, but I must order within the next two days.
Spring Trip Information
The Mohawks will travel north on April 24th & 25th for our Spring Trip. We will be the guests of Lena-Winslow for a couple of games to be played to be played at Road Ranger Stadium in Rockford. Lena is returning the favor for the effort we made to allow them to play on a very wet weekend last spring when they came down on their southern trip. The weekend works into a trip to Milwaukee to catch a Sunday afternoon game between the Brewers and the Cubs. The stadium openned just 3 seasons ago and is home to the Rockford Riverhawks. The field will be a splendid venue for the late spring trip and we don't have to sell any tickets to play there! (Thanks Coach Smargiassi and Lena). We will likely travel on to Milwaukee and spend the evening there with a tailgate of some sort prior to the MLB game. Parents who are considering making the trip need to let Coach M know as we plan for Brewers tickets.
Caseys Sponsors Game Balls Again
Caseys General Stores has again partnered with the Mohawks to provide our game baseballs for the spring and fall of 2010. This marks the 13th season that Caseys covered the cost for the baseballs used by the Mohawks in the spring and the Tomahawks in the fall. Each game baseball carries a special logo that combines the Caseys logo with the Morrisonville baseball logo. This donation provides a critical component in keeping Mville baseball going, please let the folks at our local Caseys know that you appreciate their support. It is likely that they will not know the donation has been made, so don't be surprized if they act surprized, let them know just the same.

Brewers Game Tickets: Spring Trip
The School Board has approved our spring trip which includes games at Ranger Stadium in Rockford and catching the Brewers and Cubs game in Milwaukee. The Cubs frequently sell out while in Milwaukee, so we'll be submitting for group tickets for the game. It is considered a "premium" game, so there is no discount for group tickets, but as a group we have first shot at tickets and should be able to get a better selection. We will submit an order on February 6th, the first day for group sales, so it there will be some guessing at numbers. The order can include a mixture of tickets, but the intention is to include most from the "cheap seats," so if you're a luxury kind of person, you need to let Coach M know and he'll include an order for your price range. Here's a link to seating and costs...remember we are a "marquee" game so check that column.
Information On New Bat Rule
Link To Mohawk Bat Information: Required Reading!!
While the impact of the new National Federation Bat rules will not be felt for 2 years, hear's a heads-up on changes for 2012. ALL our current bats will NOT be legal for the 2012 season. ANY bat purchased this year will effectively be unuseable in the spring of 2012...so this may be significant for our younger players. Having just invested more than $600 for our bats, the subject has become of great interest to Coach M. Most of our "game" bats are used for only two seasons in competition and then are relegated to BP, so for the moment this is not a crisis, but our situation will likely feel like one as 2012 arrives. Because this is an issue near and dear to Coach's heart, a page will be devoted to bat information.
Mohawk Baseball Google Map Now Available
It would be fair to say that the new Mohawk Baseball Google Map borders on the "geeky," but it's still worth a look. The page contains most of the game locations for the Mohawk and Tomahawk baseball games. It allows street and satellite views of each site along with a short description. Google Map directions are normally outstanding. However, the exact field locations are identified rather than street addresses, and this sometimes causes the directions to be wrong. The directions link in the link bar contains accurate driving directions to most game sites, but the Google Maps version is much more fun. I'm thinking I may have to try the suggested route to Nokomis some day just to sightsee. Link to Mohawk Google Map page.
